The BM1 Dining Chair is Børge Mogensen at his most disciplined: simple enough to disappear into everyday life, yet considered enough to remain relevant decades later.

Built around a solid oak structure and black leather seat, the chair relies on proportion rather than decoration. The frame is direct and architectural, with each element clearly expressing its purpose. Against the warmth and visible grain of the oak, the black leather introduces a precise graphic contrast and a softer point of contact with the body.

Designer

Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) was one of the central figures of Danish modernism and one of its strongest advocates for functional, durable furniture made from honest materials.

Trained as a cabinetmaker before studying furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Mogensen developed an approach rooted in construction, proportion and everyday human needs. He looked frequently to vernacular furniture and historical archetypes, searching for forms that had already proved their usefulness through generations.

His work rarely relied on novelty. Instead, Mogensen refined familiar ideas until almost nothing unnecessary remained, creating furniture that feels equally convincing in the decade it was designed and generations later.

Manufacturer

C.M. Madsen was a Danish furniture manufacturer associated with the country's mid-century cabinetmaking tradition and the production of high-quality modern furniture.

Its work reflects the principles that made Danish furniture internationally significant during the period: carefully selected materials, precise joinery, restrained detailing and construction intended for long-term use.

The collaboration with Børge Mogensen brought these manufacturing values together with one of Danish modernism's clearest design philosophies.

Condition

The solid oak frames remain in excellent original vintage condition, preserving their natural grain, warm tone and character.

The black leather seats are supple, intact and comfortable, with the subtle signs of age expected from authentic vintage furniture. The materials have been well preserved and the chairs retain both their structural integrity and visual clarity.
